*SIGH*

Act II
Scene V

(a little villa in the south of France)
[Enter Genevieve, Marguerite, Aimee, Caroline and Will Scarlett with lute in hand]

Will Scarlett:
Merrily, Merrily!
Aimee: *sigh*
Genevieve: And tra-la-la?
Will Scarlett: ....eh?
Aimee: *sigh*
Will Scarlett: Why dost thou sighest my fair lady?
Genevieve: Oh, don't mindeth her, my good sir. She knoweth not what she....sighs.
Caroline: Yes, she sighs a lot.
Marguerite:
For no apparent reason.
Aimee: *sigh*
Marguerite: It may be apparent to some and some might apparently say that it is not apparent which is a very transparent way to think, apparently.
Will Scarlett: Apparently my faculties are not coherent enough to see through the transparent appearance of her apparent reasons for sighing.
Aimee: *sigh*
Caroline: It appears that I DO understand the reason for the sighs she emits. But far be it from me to allude to it!
Genevieve: My dear, you just alluded to it. Apparently.
Will Scarlett: She has a point.
Aimee: *sigh*
Caroline: Well, I will say no more about it. It is apparent to me and that is enough.
Marguerite: You just said more about it.
Will Scarlett: (suddenly bursting into song)
"Merrily, Merrily....

Marguerite: (rolls her eyes) Oh no.

Will Scarlett:
What ho merrily!
Tra-la-la la lolly!"

Aimee: *sigh*
Will Scarlett:
"Merrily Marian, Merrily
And the Lady in waiting!
We're waiting WAITING!
Not so merrily any more
For waiting and sighing until we roar!"

Aimee: *sigh*
Genevieve: Dost thou think yonder musician is alluding to something?
Marguerite: Apparently!
Will Scarlett:
(getting louder)
"Apparently, Merrily
Marian, Caroline-ily!
Happy, happy tra la la
Let's get on with the blah blah blah!"
Aimee: *sigh*
Genevieve: A fool, a fool!
Marguerite:
Methinks he's turned into a newt!
Will Scarlett:
"Merrily, Merrily a newt, a newt!..."

(all the ladies, except for Aimee, look askance)

Will Scarlett: (stops singing)...I got better!
Aimee: *sigh*
Genevieve: Caroline-ily.....merrily? Marian...Caroline-ily...where IS Caroline....ily?
Marguerite: By Jove! She's collapsed!
Will Scarlett:
"Sleeep is a reconciling
A rest that peace begets"
Aimee:
*sigh*
Genevieve: Fetch a pail of cold water! We must revive her for I remember why she is here!

(Caroline-ily comes to apparently on account of a bucket of rain water poured over her head)

Will Scarlett: Oh my dear girl! My sweet! Merrily, Caroline-ily! Thou hast come out of your dreams to entereth mine!
Aimee: Oh! Ominous! He comes to kill my heart!
Will Scarlett: (musing to himself) Methinks I begin to understand the apparent reasons for her sighs! *sigh*
Caroline: Where am I?
Will Scarlett: *sigh*
Genevieve: You are in a Little Villa in the South of France! Did not you read the script?!
Marguerite: Yes, and the next scene will be performed in "the middle of the road in Drain, Oregon surrounded by angry policemen and ferocious dogs!" Wait, how can that be right? There must be some error. I will put a stop to this nonsense! Let us get on with the business at hand!
Aimee: Yes, sister let us proceed forthwith.
Will Scarlett: *sigh*
Genevieve: *ehem* We gather this day to present to you the winner of a most prodigious giveaway that was recently conducted at a blogeth called Pretty Wit. With much ado about nothing we give you the winner!
The Cast: (all together) The honorable Miss, The Lady, The Merry, Merrily, Merrily, Tra-la-La Caroline-ily!
Will Scarlett:
"Caroline-ily, Merrily
Ha ha ha!"
Caroline and Aimee: (simultaneously) *SIGH*
Caroline-ily: Oh thanketh thou! I am deeply honored to be the recipient of such an illustrious award! Caroline-ily....I like it! You know I do? Aimee, put it on my luggage!
Will Scarlett: *sigh*
Aimee: Caroline-ily, do not rail thus to me as if I wast thine slave!
Will Scarlett: *sigh*
Marguerite: Stop that sighing! I mean it!
Will, Aimee and Caroline-ily: (simultaneously) *SIGH*

Until we meet again in the middle of the road in Drain, Oregon surrounded by angry policemen and ferocious dogs!

A Giveaway

Act II
Scene IV

Amongst the boughs of Sherwood Forest

Genevieve: Well my sisters! Methinks that there should be a giveaway very soon.
Marguerite: We agree with THAT sister. It is the matter of what to give. That is the altercation at hand!
Aimee: Sisters, sisters! Let us not.....wait! Do mine eyes deceive me or do I see a bold and comely youth advancing toward us through the boughs?
Genevieve: Yes, I see him now!
Aimee: And my! What an audacious dresser this youth is. Look at his green hat with the jaunty red feather. And arrows to match no less! Come, let us address him and ask him what he thinks about our dilemma!

(the three Spinsters advance and address the youth)

Marguerite: Fair Youth, what do you here?
Youth: Why, hunting for my dinner table my good lady! In fact, I'm on the trail of one magnificent stag who alludes my arrows these 3 times! Have you not seen him?
Genevieve: Oh dear me, no we have not!
Youth: That is distressing! Would that I was a better shot like the one they call Maid Marian.
Aimee: Oh! Robin Hood you mean.
Youth: No! I assure you I mean no such person! Robin...Hood could not hold a candle to the famous Maid of the Forest! They say that she dresses in the garb of a youth and goes here and there helping Robin Hood and his Merry Men. I've..She's gotten them out of many an impasse!
Genevieve: If only we could meet her! I would love to lay my eyes on the someone who could best Robin Hood! She must be a most interesting young lady!
Youth: (with a strange smile) It just so happens that I have a painting of her! Would you like to see the young lady?
Aimee: Oh yes please!
Youth: Alright, but you must not look at the paintings until I am out of sight! (handing them a bundle of papers before darting off into the dark wood) Remember! Completely out of sight!
Marguerite: We will remember Pretty Youth! Thank you!
Genevieve: What a strange boy he was! Very interesting though. I hope we see more of him.
Aimee: Sisters!
Marguerite: Yes, and his eyes were very pretty!
Aimee: Sisters!
Genevieve: And such smooth skin! I don't know if I have every seen a smoother cheek on a girl!
Aimee: (very loud) SISTERS! Look!

And this is what they saw:

Marguerite: Why, it cannot be!
Genevieve: No! It must be the youths sister!
Aimee: I think it WAS her! We have been played for fools!
Marguerite: We have been bamboozled!
Genevieve: We have been hoodwinked!
Aimee: Yes, we have been all of these things but do you not see? Our dilemma is solved! We have our giveaway my dears!
Genevieve: Why yes, just so!

Just leave a comment in the box below (make sure we have some way to reach you) and state who your favorite Robin Hood character is and we will pick a winner next Sunday! The drawing is for a Maid Marian paper doll either hand colored or left uncolored for your own interpretation of the famed Lady of the Woods!

Announcing the Winner!

Act I
Scene III
Some Abandoned Cave
Enter Genevieve, Marguerite, Aimee and a Silly Hat with much Pomp and Circumstance into the dark, damp interior. With white faces and hair disheveled.

Marguerite: Alas! An Abandoned Cave! Methinks those blood thirsty turkey's will not find us here!

Genevieve: Yes, we have arrived. That was rather harrowing I must say! How gloomy 'tis! We must have some light! Where ARE those stage hands when you need them? Oh well, Aiiimeeeeee! You must procure us some glimmering lights so that we may better read the name of our Winner of the Giveaway of Wonder!

Aimee (to the audience): What ho? How many Shakespeareans does it take to screw in a light bulb?

Genevieve: Friend, I fear these good people will not wish to hear your railings. Peace!

Marguerite: Methinks there ist no place for a light bulb in this cavern of woe.

Aimee: Not a place of woe but a haven of rejoicing and prizes!!

Genevieve: Aha! Which brings us to the point of this propitious post...we are to announce the winner of our very first giveaway ever!!!! So without further ado, well, as much as we can do without ado. Or should I say...with all that previous ado, we give you the winner!

(drum roll accompanied by majestic trumpets, singing of exotic birds, wood nymphs' dancing feet and bleatings of woolly sheep)

In unison (with dramatic pauses for effect): Wait, we will show to you the hat the famous hat that held all your ravishing names. We stowed all your names in this silly top hat.

Marguerite: Then we cast a spell over the hat to protect it from the cheating curse so that the evil munchkins of Cheatersland would not prosper.

Genevieve: Oh dear, silly child. She's always had a flair for the dramatic. I really think you live in an altogether different society than we. She's cast most often in strange and foreign roles. Dracula...Pirate....Lily Maid.

Aimee: We drew in a breath to the fullest inflation of our lungs and drew out the fateful piece of parchment.
Collectively exhale and exclaim with imperfect timing: Anna Kristine!

Yea, dear friends, she is the chosen recipient of the Evenstar bracelet! Thank you so much Anna for signing up and sending all your dear friends and fans to our giveaway!

And we thank you all too for signing up! It has been a most gratifying event! In fact we had such a lovely time meeting all of you and reading your funny, intelligent and delightful comments that we plan to have many more Giveaways of Wonder! Please come back and read the script for more chances to audition and win! A very painless way of keeping informed about Giveaways of Wonder is to follow this blog. Just click the "Follow this Blog" button at the top of this page.

Marguerite: I hope you are all excited about Christmas. If not, you will be ushered out the back exit into the dark alley and left alone.

Genevieve: Shun!

Aimee: Off with their heads!

Marguerite: For we are fans of Christmas and have a special surprise flying this way. It would be wise to give audience to this blog in the days ahead. It should be a hoot.

Thank you all for playing!
